چکیده

We review the key topics of one of the areas with the biggest impact of the last years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry that is Crystal Engineering. The relevance of polymorphs and co-crystals from different points of view is been highlighted and broadly illustrated by means of several recent examples of studies carried out in this field. In addition, the most suitable instrumental techniques and the intellectual property implications are reviewed. Handbook of instrumental techniques from CCiTUB Crystal Engineering Studies 1 ChT.1

polymorphs, solvates and co-crystals. Functional groups that are self-complementary are capable of forming either a supramolecular homosynthons (eg-acid-acid and amide-amide homodimers or a supramolecular heterosynthon (carboxylicacid-amide heterodimers)

The emerging role of supramolecular chemistry and crystal engineering in pharmaceutical science has been influenced significantly by the interest in pharmaceutical cocrystals. Pharmaceutical co-crystals are co-crystals that are formed between an API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) and a co-crystal former that is a solid under ambient conditions. APIs contain functional groups that engage in ...

Microsymposium MS65.O03 Charge density studies on 1:1 co-crystals of ethenzamide and saccharin

The study of multi-component crystals, as well as the phenomenon of polymorphism, both have relevance to crystal engineering. Obtaining a specific polymorph is crucial as different polymorphs usually exhibit different physical and chemical properties and often the origin of this behaviour is unknown. This is especially important in the pharmaceutical industry. Herein, we present results of comp...

Unusual co-crystal of isonicotinamide: the structural landscape in crystal engineering.

The idea of a structural landscape is based on the fact that a large number of crystal structures can be associated with a particular organic molecule. Taken together, all these structures constitute the landscape. The landscape includes polymorphs, pseudopolymorphs and solvates. Under certain circumstances, it may also include multi-component crystals (or co-crystals) that contain the referenc...

Detection of Polymer Brushes developed via Single Crystal Growth

Single crystals consisting various surface morphologies and epitaxial structures were applied to investigate the effect of other phase regions in the vicinity of a given tethered chains-covered area having a certain molecular weight of amorphous brushes. The designed experiments demonstrated that regardless of the type of surface morphology (patterned and especial mixed-brushes, homo and co...

Chiral H-bonded chains: a key to non-centrosymmetric co-crystals of 3,5- dinitropyridine-2(1H)-one

It is well known that organic molecules without chiral center tend to crystallize in centrosymmetric space groups, as this type of packing minimizes the interacting energy of bond dipoles. Although a chiral motif can be found in any structure with a screw axis, it does not usually influence the total crystal centrosymmetry. In this work, we report crystal structures of two polymorphic forms of ...
